Well, today was the day.

Components
Kenwood KVT-617DVD
Kenwood KNA-G510 GPS unit
Garmin GXM 30 XM and NavTraffic antenna
Kenwood KCA-iP500 ipod adaptor

Plan of attack

After removing the passenger side kickpanel, dash side panel and releasing the glovebox, I decided to put the Receiver part of the KVT-617DVD system behind the toe kickpanel on the passenger side. It is attached directly below the glove box by 3 clips along the front.

The center console simply cannot fit both the DVD monitor and the receiver. By snaking wires and cables down the right side of the console, they can be easily grabbed through the left rear part of the glove box opening. This is critical because the monitor cable is fairly large with a bulky connector.

Because the the receiver is down in the passenger footwell, it's fairly straightforward to run the speaker wires directly to the amp to splice into the amp output (clipping the speaker wires from the white plug.) Additionally, the SW is run by the stock amp and the wiring can all be done at the green plug, running Blue/white to the plug end of the green plug (yellow/green stripe) and then splicing the RCA to the Red/Blue and Red/white. MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE ENOUGH WIRE ON THE GREEN PLUG SO YOU CAN STRIP AND SPLICE. On the white plug, you can cut very close to the plug since you're interested in the wires running out of the plug.

The monitor needs battery and switched 12V, ground and illumination/dimmer. The antenna harness has to be run down to the receiver as does battery and ground(well technically not). BE SURE TO RUN A SWITCHED 12V LINE DOWN TO THE FOOTWELL--FOR GPS UNIT. For convenience, you can splice the parking brake wire to the ground--technically illegal, because it allows the DVD to play while driving. I didn't worry about reverse wire--for backup camera.

I wanted to keep the aux plug, so I cut off the plug and wired RCA's according to eMass' diagram and ran them down to the footwell. I picked up male RCA's with 6 foot leads from Radio Shack

So, for synopsis:
Wires that had to run from the center console to the passenger footwell:

1. Battery wire (yellow)
2. Accessory wire (red)
3. Ground (with parking brake switch grounded) (black)
4. Right and left RCA from AUX plug
5. Video monitor cable
6. Antenna harness

The main harness only sends wires to Ground, Battery, Accessory and Illumination (dimmer). Everything else was trimmed off.

The tricky part was running the iPod adaptor back up through the center console. I ended up running a thin wire down, taped it to the ipod plug and pulled it back up. The box was left down in the passenger footwell.

Beforehand, I trimmed a slot big enough in the double DIN adaptor (pocket at the bottom) for the iPod adaptor to just fit through.

The monitor fit in with little trouble, despite there being about 6 feet of leftover monitor cable in the center console. As others have mentioned, there is a LOT of space in there.

I left the GPS and XM antennas inside the car, running their wires down the passenger side dash, in through the side dash cover. The GPS module requires accessory wire in additon to the battery and ground. The parking brake wire can be grounded too, btw. The GPS module needs to be accessible to get to an SD slot for future updates.

The tricky parts:
1. It may appear that the navigation system isn't working because you have to go through initial setup. To do that, you have to push the F key to get to the navigation setup. The touch screen doesn't allow you to get to navigation directly.

2. XM volume will be zero at first. You have to go through AV setup to allow the navigation system as an output source.

3. Navigation and XM volumes have to be adjusted partly through setup (to get it loud enough) and then through the navigation screens to set navigation and XM volumes separately.

Pictures to follow...
