Need help with big battery drain

OK, this is a strange one for me. 2008 LX

Hit a deer on the left-hand side, fairly low speed and minor: No body damage, Horn was toast, headlight mounting broken and turn signal light in headlight messed up the socket. Drove it for a few miles and the battery immediately drained.

Got it back home and fixed the light, new horn too but battery still draining, or not charging.

Have checked:
Battery (was low but even after charging it drained and was a few years old anyhow so I replaced it)
Fuses
Replaced signal bulb socket (broken in impact)
Replaced horn (broken in impact)
Thought about ELD
Checked battery voltage while running with voltmeter and scan tool - said Alternator was bad (11.4 volts). Checked connections, replaced corroded negative battery ground cable.

Hesitant to replace the alternator because it seemed to be working OK before the impact, perhaps a little weak but never had dead battery.

Checked for parasitic drain, key off and it seems to be low (normal). Does seem an ignition on drain might be happening.

Thoughts before I replace the alternator:
Bad ground somewhere other than the battery cable?
Short somewhere else that was caused by the impact?

I'll replace the alternator if needed but I have a sneaking suspicion it won't solve the issue.

Thoughts on how to run this down? I really don't want to take it somewhere and be charge $1000 for a simple issue.

Without the engine running, what is the state of charge (Volts) of the battery? Battery could have suffered internal damage (broken or shorted plate) as a result of the accident. Make sure your case is not cracked and you are not leaking acid.

Hi,
You need to stop trying to shoot the "Parts Cannon", and start troubleshooting.

Check your body grounds, block grounds, ect.

Do a drop test on the B+ wire on the Starter...

Run Codes, plenty of info out there!

I think knowing what the voltage readings on the B+ terminal and what is on the IG wire would be useful to narrow things down. I doubt it is related to your ELD/PCM/C wire because the computer control wouldnt command 11.4V.

Yeah I've checked a lot of stuff diagnostically and it seems to be the alternator which I suspect might be something that was already working towards dying and the short caused by the light/horn drained the battery to the extent that the alternator couldn't keep up and it snowballed from there. I replaced the alternator over the weekend with a rebuilt OEM and it's now registering ~14.4v and seems to be better along with the new battery.

I do have a P0498 code now but that could be unrelated and due to the fact that the car's been sitting in the driveway for a few weeks. I've had multiple incidents with squirrels doing damage to multiple cars in the past including this one so I'll start with that investigation process.

Closing out this thread - 'new' rebuilt OEM alternator from reputable shop and fixing the unrelated chew through the evap wires (damn squirrels AGAIN) and no codes, is running as it was and all seems to be good.

tldr: alternator gave up after the deer impact and replacement of all damaged parts (horn, signal socket) and alternator and all is good. Have seen some say alternator can't be damaged by an impact but I'm living proof it can be.
