Question about oil changes

Recently purchased my first E, a 2008 EX. When I got it the oil life display showed 60%. I have a couple of questions. Firstly, should I trust this and run the car until the oil life gets low (in which case how low should it go before I change it)? Secondly, I've normally gone to Valvoline to get my oil changed since there's one right by my house. I know they have a special oil for high mileage cars (mine has 83k). Would this be appropriate for my vehicle, or would i be better off taking it to my local Honda dealership. Just wondering if there's anything from the dealership that makes it a more attractive option.

When the minder reaches 15% it will pop up on your display and that's when I change the oil. Also it will give you a letter and a number. Look in the book and do what is recommended. It will tell you to rotate your tires and change the air filter among others.
If you don't want to change your own oil the Valvoline place is just fine but they wont do the other stuff.. The Honda dealer will do the stuff but some will recommend a lot of other stuff you don't need. I would suggest a local guy who has his own shop and wants you to return so he can feed his family.
One more thing. Use synthetic oil.

I'd change the oil and filter asap regardless of what the car says. You don't know if the previous owner changed it or just reset the minder out of lazyness... Or that they used the correct weight oil.

Once you change it, you can follow the normal maintenance schedule.

I do this for all used cars that come into my possession... Along with changing the tranny fluid, brake fluid, checking the coolant and taking off the wheels to rotate tires, inspect brakes, check lugnuts, etc. It's cheap insurance.

When buying a used car with peace of mind the rules and changing the oil and check the radiator fluid clotting.
The oil must not be of the same company which had, it was important to synthetic.
As a colleague wrote the above for your convenience to better replace the fluids, then you know what you have and when you have to change later. ;-)
