This is my first time on the forum and would appreciate someones help. My airbag light is on continually and it has been diagnosed as the drivers side seat belt buckle.

To save costs, I purchased a used one and wondering about removal/replacement. Do I have to remove the drivers seat in order to do this repair? Any other guidance would be appreciated! Thank you!

This assumes you are replacing the female buckle and not the belt and retractor assembly. Service info states to remove the driver's seat because the electrical harnesses and connectors for the seat belts and air bags secured to the bottom of the seat. Whether you can release the connectors with the seat in place I do not know. The connector for the seat belt buckle is gray in color and has three wires.

The seat trim on the right side must be removed as well. The battery should be disconnected prior to any work being done. Before going to all the trouble I would connect the used buckle you wish to use and see if it corrects the problem.

Ancient thread, but I had same issue on my 04 Element DX. SRS light on, would not reset. I removed the casing from the buckle (Torx anti-tamper screws). There is a little electrical switch with a shiny mechanical arm. Mine was clogged with a cat furball and assorted debris. Cleaned that out and now it works. reset light and I am all set. I thought it was important to fix as I read that when the SRS light is on, the entire system is disabled.
