Typical Hail Damage Discount

What kind of discount would most of the dealers here think is fair for an Element that had two small (small enough that we didn't notice them in low light) hail dings in the hood? I know you can't give any kind of specific amount, but would that be something in the $50, $500, or $1000 range?

We're going in to do some negotiating tonight and I just found out about the hail dings on the E we are looking at. Wanted to know if I'm getting a fair deal to cover the damage done to the vehicle.

Thanks.

Go way, way down from $1,000, at least in your expectations. This was 17 years ago, but an Accord I owned that was peppered with hail damage dents on the hood, fenders, roof and trunk, had $1,000 of damage according (no pun intended) to the insurance company. Maybe that would be $1,500 or $2,000 today, but we are talking a car with 30 or more dings.

Now, I like wankerklink's idea of starting high and going down from there in your negotiations. There's a lot right with that. Especially with insurance adjusters, where everything is negotiable. But they know their job very well, and realistically, we're talking about a few hundred dollars of damage.

In the end, the dings were minor enough that we chose to just have them repaired rather than take the discount (wouldn't really have been enough to be worth it).

Thanks for the info, though. It did help give me ideas when we were in the negotiating process.
