anyone know of any serious issues with the 03? Thinking of buying one. How about gas mileage comparisons? anyone have experience with this year and model?

I had an early production 2003 EX for 3 years.I didnt have one mechanical problem.I did had a few minor problems with interior trim.But nothing major.

 

I love my 03 4WD AT No problems (knock wood), 24000 miles. Some early 03's had a problem with the windshield cracking. Gas mileage? check out the numerous threads and you will see people reporting numbers ALL over the place! :shock: Personally, I get anywhere from 17 to 29 mpg, depending on driving style and conditions...

I try to put the 2 windsheilds i had to replace out of memory on my 2003 .....came close to having to replace a 3rd on my way to pick up my new one after getting caught behind a gravel truck on the highway,

 

Two windshields! Yikes! :-o I have a rock chip, about a half inch long, right in my line of sight and its been there for a year and a half- never gotten any bigger

I have one which I bought in November of 03. I've got 56k miles on it. I get between 23-25 mpg on the road and between 20-23 in the city.

It's been extremely reliable (knock on wood) and the only time it's been in the shop was to have all the fluids changed after sitting in 16" of brackish flood water after Katrina.

Get a mechanic to look it over, and if no problems are found, go for it.

Thanks for the info. sounds like you like your e alot. I'm hoping to pick up one for around $14,0000. most of the feedback has been positive. A few negative, but I guess that will happen with alot of volume.

 

Another thumbs up for the '03. Mine now has close to 40k and it still goes forward and backward nicely.

No problems here.Just a small stone chip that was immediately fixed.My vin # falls outside the affected windshield issues.I love my 03 SOP.

 

I love being able to toss my bike in the back but i really regret buying my 03 Element. The windshield is cracked which is the least of my concerns, it doesn't shift out of park and i've read posts about this problem on this forum but haven't read a post with a fix to the problem, my washer motor doesn't work, my rear brakes wear out way to fast, and it makes a horrible clicking noise while pulling into parking spots. And because it's out of warranty now, Honda wants a small fortune to take a look at any of these problems.

I know it's not common for Elements to have all these problems but i'm sick of mine
