Hey,

I am looking for aftermarket roof rails for my element if there are any. I would like a roof rack but mine did not come with any. I dont want to have to risk drilling into it so I am hoping there are preexisting holes available? Its a 04 Ex if anyone can help me out with info on rails or holes or even products, thanks!

You have 4 pre existing mounting points on your roof. two on each side. Just remove the black plastic tabs. You can use Yakima, Thule maybe Inno. I have the Yakima set up. You will need the landing pads, control towers, and cross bars. Also a fairing to reduce wind noise. That's just for the base rack system. You can add a basket, bike or kayak attachments if you want too. Try orsrackdirect.com or racknroad.com. Be prepared to spend some dough. Also check CL for used gear. Ebay and amazon also sells rack gear. good luck.

I purchased Yakima's Track system (54 inches I believe) and had a local body shop install the rails to the top of my E. You use the same towers that are designed to attach to the factory mounting points as for the rails. This allows you to use both the rails and factory mounting points.

Though more expensive, the rails provide more flexibility over the factory mount points. It allows you to slide the towers to fit your load. For my bikes they need to be narrow while carrying my 18' kayak, I can increase the load points by moving the towers forward and back for more support.

The only downside is the rails are mounted into the sheet metal and should only be use lighter loads. Bikes, light water craft, small amounts of lumber etc. Heavier loads I use the factory mounting points.
