Code P1157 after Donut Replace

Hello all,

Just trying to help out a friend. He had an exhaust leak and we diagnosed it to the Donut.

We decided to replace both donuts and after replacement the check engine light came on.

I am a little stumped as we just changed the donuts.

From what I have read you need to replace the A/F sensor before the CAT.

We cleared the code and also unplugged the battery in an attempt to reset the light. but it kept coming on.

What I was thinking was the element had an exhaust leak for quite some time leading the sensor/ECU to learn and compensate. Then we replaced the donuts and the ECU hasn't learned that there is no leak and the sensor is going crazy.. Make sense?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I have the same problem. I replaced both donuts and then got a P1157.

Like you, I suspected that the ECU had "learned" the O2 sensor values with a leaking donut, so I tried disconnecting the battery and also clearing the error codes. Neither worked. I drove it like this for a year (because I'm cheap) with no problem, but now I'm due for an emissions check which I'll fail because they look for emissions-related codes. I'm going to order a DENSO 2349064 to replace it with. I assume that this will solve the problem. Why did the O2 sensor fail? Dunno.
