Got me some new tires for the Element. I've been using 225/70 16s all along with good results, so I did the same thing this time. Set 'em at 40psi all around (based on lots of trial & testing in the past) and stuck 'em on some painted steelies. The color is International (tractor) Red, the center caps are from some CR-V wheels, and i'm not sure i like the white letter out look. ;-)

Since you included 3 photos , I'm putting this up for the ride of the month for May ....... I thought you would be giving a review on the tires ...... Maybe too soon ...... But the RED rims ???????? Almost ready for demolition derby .... Try putting a beauty ring on that puppy and I'm sure you'll like the results .... You know it also got me thinking of the endless possibilities of rim colors that could be applied (green , orange) I've seen pink rims .... hmmmmmm

trim rings would prolly be good....or maybe just the stock black plastic wheel center covers (that I don't have).

I'll have more info about the tires after I get to drive it a bit. Started this thread the day I got 'em. We're taking the wife's Oddy on a road trip this weekend, and my crappy old civic has been pulling commuter duty the past year or so. I'm not racking up the miles like i used to. (last year was less than 10k on the E, almost 30k on the Civic.)

thanks!

How do you like the tires? I was looking to pick some up because they are a bit cheaper than some of the other sets.

Also i love the steelies look, I was planning on getting some for my orange box, painting them orange, and using them exclusively for a winter set of tires I was going to buy.

I've only put about 1500 miles on them so far. A nice mix of back roads and highway. Plenty of rain and dry use. They are great. Good handling, low noise, plenty of traction on twisty roads. The ride very smooth....no/little harshness on expansion joints and potholes and bad road surfaces. Some of the roads I drive are pretty rough, but these tires are especially smooth, even at 40psi all around.

So far, I like these as much as the General Grabber HTS I had on it previously. I'll even run them into the winter to check their snow traction.

I need new tires and I was considering these or the Cooper Discoverer AT/3, which are basically what you had two times ago with the ATRs. How do the CTS compare with your old ATRs?

I currently run Cooper CS4s on my element and they have been good on the road, but I have only gotten about 40k out of them. Of course, with the warranty, the next set should be about half off. Was thinking it may be worth it to move to the CTS or the AT/3 though.

Love to hear your thoughts...

The AT/3 seems quite a bit different and supposedly improved from the old ATR. I liked the ATR....and I was very tempted to get AT/3s. The CTS is supposed to have quite a bit of tread life/longevity. Its too early to tell how they are holding up, but the tread is very "deep," so even if it wears quickly, there is so much rubber there it will take a while to notice. Supposedly the CTS is a "light truck heavier duty" version of the CS4s. There was a rebate programing running when I got them (similar to one going on now thru October?) that made the CTS only something like $2 a tire more than the CS4s. That made that decision easy. I almost went with the AT/3s, but I don't really need the "All Terrain" capabilities, and I liked the mileage and the handling of my General Grabber HTS. The CTSs seemed similar the the Grabber HTS in that respect. add it all together and the CTS was the best bang for the buck & the best tire for the job.

I need to put more miles on these things to really say anything with certainty, but so far these are very good/great tires. My Hoopty Civic (100 mile/day commuter) has some issues, so i'll be using the E for the next few weeks as a commuter again, not just a weekend family adventure wagon.

Thanks!
