After whacking my head on the liftgate a couple of times, I googled extra-long lift supports and most of the posts were from a while ago and the links they had didn't work, so I did my own research and found Strongarm 4351's made in China. {I only buy Chinese parts as they are better made than other parts}. These raise the liftgate about 6 inches. Whereas the old liftgate hit my 6' 3" head at about eye-level, now it's over my head. As mentioned in some of the old posts, these are NEW and a little stronger than the stock ones, so when you open the liftgate you need to be sure to have a hand on it, and/or step back a little. LOL

I can confirm that these liftgate struts work – made a little gif to show the difference. The lower one is a brand new set of Element-spec struts, and the higher one is the '98 VW Beetle cabrio w/spoiler struts. Who'da thunk it!

No metal rubbing on metal in the fully open position. It's baffling Honda didn't spec it this way out of the box!

This is an interesting point you make. There’s now 6’3 (75”) below the plastic interior panel of the hatch when in its raised position, and the height of the outside of the hatch is 6’8 (80”) when raised — perhaps some garages or portions of garages around the garage door area are shorter than that?
