I started the thread over a year ago. Got my Transport Canada recall letter yesterday in mail. Will set up an appointment here on east coast in near future. Driving a 2010. They have figured out a fix that doesn't cost thousands (like on CRVs) it seems from the pictures above of the "stiffener". My notice said if the vehicle is deemed unfit to drive, they will purchase based on pre-determined amount + some sort of bonus. Will update with my developments in days to come.

No I don’t think the notice says “deemed unfit to drive”. It says “if the mounting bolts fail the inspection criteria “

We got the same phone call, from Moncton Honda. We own 2 Elements, an 04 and an 06. The 04 passed, but the 06 didn't and they did not let us drive it home. Still waiting to hear from them with an offer/next steps. Jake2004 are you from the Moncton area?
Hi, I'm a little late to the party, but did you end up with a repair or buy-back offer? I'm in NB with an '06 with 425000km on it - worried my buyback will be virtually nothing.

The 06 originated from PEI, which could be why there was an issue. The 04 originated from Ontario and was ok. More salt is used on the roads in winter in the Maritimes than in Ontario. It's been over a week now and we have not heard back from them, we still have the rental vehicle. I contacted Transport Canada and they do not have a recall notice. They suspect Honda Canada will try to do it quietly as there are not that many Elements left in eastern and atlantic Canada. My husband and I have a price in mind and if they don't offer that amount we will insist they fix it or contact the media/APA. We really want to get another one as the 04 is having transmission problems. I'll keep you posted on this thread. The only thing I'm thinking could happen in your case is that if you have an accident caused by the corrosion you may be out of luck as far as suing Honda or getting them to fix it, unless they end up putting out an official recall, since you refused their request/offer to inspect it. But I could be wrong.
I just got my recall in Ontario, 2003 with 290,000 I'm putting off taking it in cause I can't afford another car.. how much did they offer you?

The inspection criteria is just if they can get the front bolt extracted from the trailing arm. If they can do that they put on the bracket and send you on your way. The car will still not likely pass a safety inspection but the point is that Honda will not be liable when the back wheels fail as they think you’ll be able to pull the boat anchor to the side of the road safely. If you want maybe 2k for it, tell your mechanic not to be able to remove the bolt. The service manager should be able to tell you the low end price that they will give you if you tell him the Year trim level and kilometers. The goodwill amount will be X dollars above this, Which may or may not be determined by the dealer or Honda.
They are not trying to take unsafe vehicles off the road they are just trying to limit their liability if a wheel goes flying off and kills somebody. They are also cheaping out by avoiding buybacks if at all possible.

Had my 2006 Element (415,000km) in yesterday and had the braces installed without issue. Happy to have "Ellie" back, a little sad I wasn't pushed into a new Ridgeline LOL!
How was your rust situation? Was the second bolts rusted out? Did they say anything about other parts of the frame that are unfit? If anyone needs a good engine and parts element I have mine up for sale in Ottawa. 213K. MSG me

No other frame issues were noted and they didn't mention the 2nd bolts being rusted out (I was a little rushed on pick-up this AM). Service Manager did say that he was shocked at how good the frame looked considering the year/mileage.
