Hi Guys - I have a 2007 SC 5spd with 218k miles. Yesterday all of a sudden it is losing power and there is a sucking air noise from under the hood when I try to accelerate, however there is no power. Nothing visibly wrong. I have not had a chance to further investigate but it will start and idle with no issues and run for a while until it starts acting up again. I checked the air filter and it is not clogged.

What it sounds like is a vacuum leak. My suggestion is get a second person and try to trace it down with them pressing on the gas, hopefully reproducing the sucking sound and its location. Unfortunately, vacuum leaks aren't the easiest to trace....:-(
Good luck!! :)

I will check it out. Odd thing was that when idling everything seems OK. It was only after the motor ran for a while that the issue recurred. When trying to accelerate it sounds like it is starving for air or fuel. I appreciate your response and when I know more or can provide additional clues to the issue I will post. For now the weather is not cooperating and I since it is my secondary vehicle the Element will have to wait.

Not knowledgeable on cats, but, IMHO, that doesn't answer the "sucking" problem. Where would it be sucking air in, even if it's clogged? :? :?
Anyone?? Anyone??
