Hello all, just acquired an 04 E and super excited.
It had a CEL which I scanned was for P0118 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit High, the live data showed -40F as coolant temperature so I knew it's a sensor problem.

Didn't think it was a big deal and bought a coolant temperature sensor and changed it right by the engine block.

Even after clearing the code, the code would come up again, but now I can read the actual coolant temperature.

Any idea what could be wrong? Also, the idle is a big strange, whenever I turn the steering wheel, the idle speed would shoot up a lot, like over 1k rpm.

Is there another coolant temperature sensor, which one is Sensor 1?

Its on the back of the head on the right side toward the air filter. You can actually reach it if you put your arm over the valve cover and reach around the corner. Only other thing I could imagine is the thermostat is bad
Found a video of it
Thanks! Yep, that was what I ordered and changed. Now the coolant temp is reading on my OBD reader and the gauge goes up.

How some the P0118 trouble code still shows up again even after clearing it?
