If you had looked at the threads before you went for the P-4, You would have seen that people are using N designation Batterys. The " N " puts the positive terminal on the engine side of the car. As opposed to the front. It saves that tight fit, of the positive terminal, to the front frame support. It makes connections, and using Jumper cables easier.
So I am talking about Diehard P4n .
Dom
Hi Dom. There is no P4N. Sears only makes one version of the P4 with one post orientation. The prior post (#97) actually shows a P5. If you look on the Sears website, you'll see the post orientation on a P4 is opposite of the P5. I called Sears to confirm (I sure wish they had an "n" model).

That is another consideration for upgraders. Most people don't need a P4 and having the orientation of the P5 is probably the better choice. My needs differed.

I am a new E owner (2010 EX) and wish to install a recommended SC35DA Deep Cycle battery <http://tinyurl.com/76rwroh> . Should this fit without too much mod. Also, the vendor expressed concern about a larger-than-oem battery surrounding components under the hood. From what I've read here, simply installing a larger battery reires no other component swap.
Also, he suggested a "voltage cut-off switch" to prevent the battery's falling below a level at which it can't start the vehicle. Where can I find such?

voltage cutoff switch will only be good if you run your radio etc with the car off or leave your lights on etc.

if the battery itself has an issue it can still turnup dead on a winter day.

but...

http://www.dg2k.co.uk/xcise.htm is prettymuch what your looking for. google or ebay should find venders. of this or similar

well i thought i should add to this thread. i went to the honda dealership to get an oil change and asked them to check out my battery to see if i needed to replace it or not. well they came back with the results i needed a new battery. well i looked at that battery and thought its way to small. time to upgrade! well since chicago had some lovely weather why not change out my battery. better than it being dead in a snow storm.
i got myself a autocraft 24f battery along with a new battery tray which i trimmed so i can slide in my j hooks. since the oem j hooks were to small for me i upgraded the j hooks to 10inch ones along with a battery tie down. hope it helps out for those who want to upgrade using the 24f battery.

Need a replacement battery...please advise.

I know what you're thinking..."There's a million threads here about batteries; USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!"
I've probably read through all of them and now I'm more confused than ever.
Do I go with a group 51, 56, 34, 35? Sheeesh....so many opinions!
I'd rather not have to do to any modifying but I'm willing if the increased performance is measurable. PLEASE HELP.

Thanks!

I see your in Corona CA and being a fellow west coaster, if you can find a higher cranking battery that will fit go for it. The high crankers are mostly a colder climate item where as here we dont see those too often on the shelves. I dropped a Red Top Optima right in with the addition of an aftermarket hold down kit in lieu of the aforementioned bigger battery not being available.

If you cant figure out what battery is best, hit a brick and mortar battery shop.

Go to wallmart and buy a size 56 and the plastic universal bracket. If you look at the battery you have now there is a plastic case around a small battery. The size 56 is the same size as the plastic case and fits with no modification.

its super easy. aside from cutting down the tray, i bent the tabs back along with any of the metal sticking up. just enough so the tray nestles in it perfectly. here is the parts i picked up .. its all made by autocraft. hope it helps :)

battery tray ~part# AC102
anti-corrosion battery washers ~part# AC184
swift battery hold down brackets ~part# AC107
10" j bolt battery hold down ~part# AC111

Thanks guys!
Does a group 56 put out enough juice? I just looked at the one at Walmart, it said it was rated at 530 cold cranking amps.
I snowboard a lot and spend some time in Big Bear and in the mountains during winter. If I had to do some minor modifying for a huge benefit I'd probably be up for it.
What do you think?

Mahalo, will try this when I need to replace the old one.:)

It's not too hard to shoehorn a group 35 battery in (a little bending and whatnot).

Go to Do It Yourself/Mods, "Small battery driving you nuts a bigger battery fits". Go to post #187 by 'flying brick', last page. Might be just what you're looking for. Its supposed to fit with no problems. You need to purchase some optional parts though.

If you have a modified (deleted the factory air box) air filter system then there is no real telling what will fit. It may be best to pop the hood and post some pictures. Or you can go to a brick and mortar battery shop and have them put in the highest cranking battery that will fit.
Again the issue many here will not take into account is here on the West Coast we dont get those cold weather higher cranking batteries. Where someone back East will get a 800+ CCA we get it as a 500/600 CCA in the same size here in SoCal. Before doing the battery swap I went to Walmart, Sears and the local auto chain stores AFTER hitting the brick and mortar battery shops here local. Nobody had the higher CCA batteries which is why I went with an Optima Red Top.
In other words your search for the batteries others are posting in the bigger battery thread may be fruitless due to location alone.

per sears there are reasons the northern states have different battery's than southern states..seams battery's don't last as long in the southern states due to heat..

from there web site..
What are the differences between North and South designs?
Whether hot or cold, temperature extremes cause specific stresses on automotive batteries. This is why Sears is one of a few retailers to offer climate-specific batteries. Extreme cold climates require a battery with more power to start cold engines. DieHard batteries for the Northern US are designed to provide the extra power needed to start an engine in the frigid winter months. See climate map for Northern US.
Heat and vibration are two of the leading causes of premature battery failure. In the Southern US, many DieHard batteries are designed with internal components that stand up to damaging heat. No matter where you live you can count on Sears to offer the battery that will give you the longest life for your climate. See climate map for Southern US.

Install was pretty uneventful.
1. Remove old battery and accompanying plastic pieces.
2. Use a large straight slot screwdrive to bend out the hold down tabs on the battery platform.
3. Sit new battery on tray, tie down with new tie down strap, connect leads.
4. Grin and close the hood.
WHere can one find a tie down strap like this?

Eleven, any auto parts store should have them for about $5. You want the plastic adjustable tie down, not the rubber one. The rubber one flexes too much and allows the battery to slide.

You can probably reuse your old "j" bolts and nuts.

Yeah, that's a Lynx adjustable battery hold down, I purchased mine from Auto Zone when I swapped out my battery.

Here's my battery install that I posted quite a few pages back in this same thread.

^^Notice on my Lynx bracket I did away with those wings nuts and I added washers underneath the nuts, plus I also cut the excess threads off. Oh and I plan on ditching that Optima 34R fairly soon and probably going with an Odyssey 34R PC-1500.

I ended up going with a group 56 Duralast from Autozone....the only 56 that Walmart offered was their Everstart (they don't offer the 56 in the Everstart Maxx) Their 'basic' Everstart put out 530 cca for $70 and a 2yr replacement warranty while the Duralast puts out 590 cca for $90 and the same 2yr replacement warranty. Just as Rick92040 said; it fits perfectly after removing the two plastic cases that enclose the stock 51.

I did need a new wider 'hold-down' bracket..... I went with the universal fit adjustable Lynx battery hold down...also from Autozone.

My E. cranks over much faster, my interior lights are much brighter...for now, I'm happy! Hopefully this post will help atleast one person...haha...I was super confused by all the 'battery threads' on EOC. Thanks for everyone's help!
