Throttle body cleaning question

Hey there,
Just got back from an oil change and got a whole list of things that need to get taken care of for the Element...One thing is cleaning the throttle body for $100. Is this something that I can do myself? The other thing I refuse to pay for, a 30,000 mile check-up/maintenance for $443!!!!! and $350 for two rear tires. Gads! prices have skyrocketted. Anyway, I looked back a few pages and couldn't find anything. It was also mentioned that this should be done every 3 years. It's a 2006 Element, and I've had it for a year and three months. They said that the throttle body has too much carbon build-up. Any help appreciated or direction to another area of the forum. Thank you.

No problem. Went in for an oil change, and they told me that the throttle body had an abnormally high amount of carbon on it, that it needed cleaning to get better gas mileage. They did say that this is usually only needed every 3 years...No problems with the car. What do you think?

"Fishy" is the nicest thing I could think of for that line.

You didn't actually say it was a dealer but the 30,000 check up sounds kind of like dealer speak. In any case I believe you would do well to hunt for a new service place. Talk to people you know and get recommendations. I know it's difficult (unless you're a motor-head) to find confidence inspiring service but $350 for two tires and $100 "throttle body cleaning" doesn't sound like you've found it!

Man that's a mighty fine muffler bearing

OOH GOD, I love the motor oil bypass kit. why dirty the oil with the motor, so bypass it for cleaner flowing oil.HAHAHAHAHA
