Timing jumped?

Ok so I’ve had three other Element’s thus far in my life. First one went to 340,000 miles until frame rust let the lower control arm no longer stay in place. Second 270,000 miles total to an accident. Third I sold with 210,000 miles. All those just needed require maintenance and were trouble free for the most part.

The fourth that I have now bought at (2004 model year) 144,000 miles now has 202,000 mile started running horribly took it to a independent mechanic and informed me that the engine has jumped timed. My question is this a common thing or should I really be looking at something else. Should also mention that I’m from a rural community and in is hard to find a good local source on this subject. Thanks for any input.

If the engine jumped time, you will need a new head or at least new valves.
This engine is an interference engine. Jumping a single tooth on the timing will impact a valve at least.

Get a second opinion.
