has anyone seen or maybe done the vertical doors on an element

No, I think he means the "scissor" doors - a la Lamborghini - that seem to be popular with the all-show-but-no-go mods crowd, otherwise politically incorrectly known as "ricers". Believe it or not, there are mod kits for converting the doors many of the small Japanese sedans this demographic is drawn to.

For the E this would take a lot of work, including reshaping the door for clearances.

I don't quite understand the attraction. I've driven (and worked on) the Lambo model that started it all, and while those stupid doors may have been flashy, they were a royal PITA to use as doors.

If anyone suggests anymore of this tuner/ricer BS for the Element, I'm selling mine...the last thing I want to see is a bunch of E's with carbon fiber parts, a wing big enough to hang laundry on and stupid all show and no go accessories. Keep that junk for Mom's grocery-getter-turned-race car...same goes for Altezza taillights :x

>but does not the element promote being DIFFERENT

Absolutely. But the E revels in its difference because the differences are a product of its functionality and flexibility, not out of being weird for strangeness' sake.

If vertical doors are what floats your boat, then go ahead and do it and - please - share the results. While like the others I feel they would be in questionable taste, I, for one, would appreciate the technical accomplishment, 'cause it's going to be a major and very costly undertaking.

I'm shocked at the negativity on this topic. Here's someone, whom we have no knowledge of their background, asking a simple question about an aftermarket modification, being met with such resistance. I respect anothers opinion and take it to heart as a POSSIBLE bit of good advice. But who are you to judge another persons car "culture" just because you think it looks bad. I've been apart of the 4x4 world my whole driving life and have recently delved into the so called "import" lifestyle with my '89 Prelude. I've seen time and time again in this "club", people asking questions about E customization, so obviously a large group of people are looking to make their E different than it already is. If anyone of you on this topic can say that their E is bone stock and you plan to keep it that way, then step forward, otherwise back-off! I could personally care less whether someone painted their panels, or put in the latest stereo equipment because I know that it was their decision. Honestly, who could give a left nut about whether or not someones car is all show and no go, maybe that was their intent. I completely respect anypersons attempt at getting THEIR vehicle to fit THEIR style. At this time, its not like there are a ton of aftermarket parts for the E available that make it move any better. If you've got a bike rack and use it, Great! If you lowered your suspension and like the way the E handles, Awesome! And even if you've beefed up your suspension to do some serious backroad adventures, Cool! Any way you put it, you've already committed yourself to a stereotypical "group" of people that you could be scorned and ridiculed about. SOUNDS LIKE THE POT IS CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK! People get trophies for going fast around a series of left hand turns and people get trophies for making their car look good. Ask a question, get an answer. That's all a new member is looking for. Give a guy/gal a break and keep your comments to yourself and try to give a half-brained attempt at a logical reply. In the end, we're all still driving the same vehicle, modified or not.

My 20 year old daughter, who is usually away at college and tries to ignore the fact that I own a "funky" Element, got a ride to the airport yesterday in the Element.

"hey dad! Your car is really pimped out with the suicide doors! That is THE lastest thing with the mod crowd!" (a friend of her's is into the "modified car" scene)

Cooool. Looks like Honda had some fashion foresight? Already a jump ahead.

I can be "with it" and still stick with my "keep it simple" approach.
(and yes, I am 51 years old....and that IS part of the joke for me)

So yah, if you want to be soooo 10 minutes ago and go with the vertical doors, go with it......

I'll just say a few...

Every day my two little girls enter and exit the doors on the drivers side of my "E" at least 3 times. Each time I stop I have to remove my seatbelt. Big deal. Then I have to open my door. Big deal. Then my oldest daughter opens her door. Since the rear door is much shorter than my door I know that she'll never slam into another vehicle that I'm parked next to, which is nice.

I personally wouldn't change a THING about the doors the way that they are now. I love the fact that my rear passengers (i.e., my girls) cannot exit the vehicle without my knowing about it!

HONDA, you've done a GREAT job here as far as I'm concerned! :)

...But then I'm more about FUNCTION than FASHION.
