#2 reason for buying a manual is this swap, #1 is just liking shifting by hand which goes to number 2.
problem I’m finding is sourcing the 5-6 synchro as it’s $500+
Does anyone have ideas on getting those? Or parts there looking to sell?
Also, anyone in the NY area done the swap and willing to lend support or a hand for refreshments let me know. Hoping by spring time to have the parts to make the swap.

I bout the whole 6thgear conversion kit used from eBay. Came with the shift fork and the part that some people cut to gain the space for the shifter to reach the 6th gear. It was 350$ and is in great shape.
I’m also going to order parts to add a reverse lockout. More to come on that.

Ouch and wow I'm surprised how much those have gone up (me saying this after just looking this up and verify myself)!!!

While I did opt to buy this syncro for my conversion, I opted not to install it (with the intent of proving it's not needed as per the original pioneers that initially did this conversion 10+ years ago).

I've been happily running my setup since 2022 with Redline MT-90 (my preferred and recommended MTF by the way). Shifts are butter smooth (and especially still satisfying when going into 6th, even after all these years). Just keep in mind, on cold days its a tad notchy, until when the transmission oil gets up to temp in it's optimal range.

My recommendation - save yourself the $550+ by skipping on this syncro. Why spend that much extra money for a non essential part when your gears 1-5 likely already have 100K+ miles on them?

Amazing news! I had to do some Google research to determine what the synchros actually do. As I understand it they help moving from one gear to the next? What is in its place without them? Without the synchros it’s only a bit over $300 for the parts. Def feasible.
I saw that there is a kit on eBay of used parts, for $400, I am debating this as well. But for less money without the synchros for new parts.. I prob would go that direction.
Hey NYbumkin where you located maybe we can do a mod day and help eachother do the swaps.

Are you doing the solenoid lock out or something else? Where is NY are you bumkin?

If you're doing this conversion - remember all it is adding a 6th gear; not recreating a whole new gear set.

That said, in regards to your question of where the 6th gear syncro would go - it replaces the one we already currently have being used (from what I can tell shifting 4th to 5th). What makes the 6th gear syncro different is how both the top and bottom sides are notched on the syncro (versus just one side with the current one).

Since we already had something in place - that's why I felt more comfortable skipping the replacement when I did mine. After roughly reassembling the gear set with the new 6th gear main & countershaft installed, I confirmed this before reinstalling by successfully manually shifting thorough the gear set.

Note though: This information is based on my personal observations, research, and understanding. Someone with more original design knowledge than me may correct or clarify my understanding. Proceed at your own discretion.

I’m adding parts from the tsx solenoid lockout setup that mounts to the transmission. And will run a momentary button at the dash somewhere to control it.

I’m in Virginia. Have the transmission opened up. Just waiting to buy the LSD to finish the installation of the new parts.
