Honestly, this question has been asked no less than a dozen times. Run a few searches and you'll the various responses.

There isn't any specific answer as it all depends on what you're looking to do. Some people have have 400+ on the tailgate without any issue. I wouldn't recommend 1,000 but 400 is fine.

If memory serves me correctly, which it probably does not: the sales rep (who probably got his info from the standard issue manual) said 525 lbs max. I've had myself and a friend sit on the tailgate before for about 20 minutes (combined weight... roughly 375-400 lbs) with out any bad noises or future problems. *shrug* Considering there is a honda accessory that acts as a backrest for the tailgate to be sit on, I am sure it can handle a decent amount of weight.

Whatever the official capacity turns out to be, remember that a lot of it depends how close you put the load to the edge of the tailgate. 400 lbs right on the edge is a much larger load on the cables than 1000 lbs a couple of inches from the hinge...

FWIW, we have had 440 lbs close to the edge on ours with no observed problems.

For some bizarre reason look under Skylight in the manual, page 94 in mine. Has the following note

"The maximum weight on the tailgate is
440 lbs (200 kg)."

:?
The "bizarre reason" is that right above the notice they tell you to stand on the tailgate to remove the skylight from the roof.

BTW, the 440 pounds is for a static load. If you are jumping around, YMMV.
