I just picked up an 07 SC and the thought of rewiring 7 speakers and a sub for a nicer stereo is not appealing. Can the factory amp just be upgraded? What are you guys doing to push the upgraded speakers?
I dont believe you will gain anything but blown speakers if you try and upgrade the factory amp and stick with factory speakers.

I just installed new 6-1/2" Infinity 6032si speakers all around in my 2009 LX.

Took about 45 minutes. I did not use the supplied template/ring except to locate new holes for predrilling. Rear install first. I removed speaker grilles by just pulling them off. There is a lot of depth available in the rear doors and so I could have used the 6032cf model.

The side by side photos show the stock speaker on the right and the infinity speaker on the left. I used Metra speaker wiring harness for all speakers. Products purchased from Sonicelectronix.com.

See next post for more photos.
I don't know anything about speaker installation so I was wondering, aside from buying the new speakers like the ones you have there, do you just plug them in and screw them on? How do you connect the speakers? Do you have to buy something separate to connect them and if you do, does it require soldering or something? Since I don't know how to do anything like that, plug an play is what I'm hoping for!

Then Crutchfield will be your best bet:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ig4Ww7XWbnk/m_399/Car-Speakers.html

They will include plug and play adapters for after market speakers using the factory harness.

Speaker installs are very, very easy. You may want to disconnect the negative battery terminal on your E. After the covers are removed, just unscrew the speakers, unclip the harness wires, clip the new harness in, attach the wire leads to the speakers, screw the new speakers in. Re-attach the covers. Done.

For a quick reference, NOT ON AN E but another vehicle front door, check out this video but go right to the 1:30 mark:

Thanks Rob Dobbs! I appreciate it. I can't wait to put new speakers in.

I have installed the head unit.

I just ordered the speakers and will install them next weekend. Hopefully everything will fit. Has anyone installed these?

I will post pictures after the install.

Search for 72-7800 speaker harnesses from Metra. They are all over the internet

i just bought 2 pairs of these today

Metra 72-7800 Honda Speaker Harness Pair New

i have been sloooooooowly working on my system....i can tell you the jl audio XR-650 CS component set midwoofer does not fit in the door! I cut all the plastic out in the back and its a no go....im going to have my box builder guy make me some relatively thin baffles and i think im good....its not the depth on the JL that is the issue, its the freakin wide basket! ugh! and i bought these from a forum member here and was told they'd fit...i shoulda done more homework.....

im not a fan of polk db's like everyone else is recommending but would totally be fine with them due to install factor....challenge # 8,XXX nothing is ever easy for me

I think they were selling a pair of Polk DB 6501 at Fry's for $49 this week. Those will fit in the rear and with a slight modification can fit in the front as well. I'm going with the 6501's in the rear and ordered some 651s online for the front. Rocking the Metra speaker harness to keep it clean and simple. And pondering about a possible amp install under the front seat powering an aftermarket 6.5 sub in the factory enclosure... I may be wrong but it seems like if I go any bigger in the front I'm going to get too much rattle and less roll...

Update

The speaker install I mentioned above went relatively smooth. I just purchased the car used 2 weeks ago. The subwoofer didn't work, nor did the rear driver's side speaker. :-( I pulled the HU out to discover a bad wiring job and bad RCA connectors. I took the car in the next morning to have it rewired and to replace all bad connectors in order to get the speakers working. $35 and 30 minutes later everything was working! Installed the Polk DB 6501 in the rear (needed to drill holes for those) and dropped in the Polk 651s in the factory screw mounts (no drilling needed). They sound awesome and will get better after the break in period. The only bummer about the install is that I couldn't utilize the clip-in Metra speaker wire harness cos the owner before me decided to do a hack wiring job. :x
A little crimping took care of it. I think I'm not going to replace the sub just yet. The OEM sub actually sounds really good right now. Probably cos it was being preserved by not being audible for ages. It makes me realize... next time I buy a new car I'm going to do everything the right way the first time so that the next guy who buys it can feel stoked about it. Pay it forward and for Pete's sake! Do the job right or practice on your crappy car next time! 8)

You put components in the rear and coaxials up front?

So is there a rule of thumb as to what mounting depth the 6.5" speakers can be for the front and rear doors? I have an 05 LX and want to upgrade all 4 speakers. I am not looking to spend much at all, but I figure just about anything will be better than the stock speakers. I am putting a Kenwood DDX418 head unit in so I don't think the stock speakers will be able to handle the power anyway. Will these fit? Its only $44 shipped for 4.

PLANET AUDIO TQ623 6.5" 120W 3-Way Car Audio Speakers
Mounting Depth: 3-1/16"

Or these

QUANTUM FX S6502 6.5" 3-Way 400 Watts Speakers Pair
Mounting Depth : 57mm (2-1/4")
Approximate Weight : 3.40 LBS

Please know that I am not an audiophile and anything that is an upgrade from the factory speakers and will handle the power of the new deck will work for me.

Not sure where you got the depth measurement for those Planet Audio speakers, because most were listing it as being 2 5/16"

I would think those Planet Audios would probably fit. The Quantum speakers look as though the tweeter/mid may come in contact with backside of the factory grilles. Out of those two choices I'd go with the Planet Audio speakers.

Did you check out the link I posted for those JVC speakers? They would also be a good choice, I bought two pairs of those JVCs the other day and I received them today. I'll post an update after I get a chance to install them and let you guys know how they fit and sound. I really don't plan on keeping the JVCs in my Element for very long, as I will be upgrading to some hi end components and coaxials in the near future.

Just got my E this past tuesday. Stuffed some Hertz HSK 165Xls in the front doors with some slight modification with tweeters in the factory locations.
