I have an 03 4WD EX AT Element SOP with 110K miles. I am on the fence about just keeping it, or buying something new. I've enjoyed the Element, though I've been underwhelmed by the mpg (if it got better mileage I would keep it for sure). At any rate, I am toying with the idea of replacing the timing belt, starter, water pump, fuel pump and alternator in the hopes of having a vehicle I can reasonably rely on to 200K. I am assuming the transmission will last if I continue to take care of it.
Thought I'd see if anyone here has been up in the 200K range and/or if anyone could tell me how many years/miles before they lost a starter, water pump, fuel pump, alternator, transmission and/or other significant part. Running to failure was fine when I was younger, but I don't want to take that approach now that I'm a little older.
FWIW. Always change oil every 5K. Air/cabin filter as needed. Rear axle fluid replacement and AT fluid replacement at 85K. Brakes replaced at 65K (about due again). Battery replaced. On my 3 set of tires. Never driven off road or any severe duty.
