I had an after market DTM exhaust installed on my E about 6 years ago well just last week the weld broke over time and now I need to replace my exhaust setup. I've been playing with the idea of doing a magnaflow dual exhaust system and having the pipes exit the rear of the side skirts. If I were to do this how much work is actually involved. Please add you input I need your help.

i dont know about the work/cost, but i love the idea. when I do my exhaust Im going to do a side exit (passenger side). I want to do cat->muffler (single inlet, dual outlet)->out to the side, right before the back wheel..

*edit* I think if you want it to go on both sides, you might have an issue because of the 4WD system.. but you should check. I can see where I want mine to go

Look underneath and see if you have clearance.

Yes there is room a single tip has been done coming out the side. I was going to do that if I ended up buying mandrel bent pipe & having it welded up custom. I would put a metal plate on the skirt where the exhaust comes through just for some protection.
Another issue it that you might have is that most people want to have a resonator & a muffler because of the drone in the E. That would be hard pressed to make fit unless you had some kind of loop back forward out of the muffler.

This was about 5 years ago, but this guy had the best side pipes that I ever saw on an Element!

I agree. This is the photo that popped into my head when I read the OP. The diamond plate is stellar and really sets it off!
I added some aluminum trim to it afterward but I don't have pics. the tubing is 3.25" I thought about making it come out the side skirt but didn't feel like having to cut and weld a tube into the unibody.
