When I was stationed in Japan I organized a Mt Fuji climb with the staff. About 30 of us went and it was a blast. The trip down was tougher on the body than the climb up but...Fuji has nothing on this hike in China. Clearly they're not worried about lawsuits.

The day I "climbed" Mt Fuji there were likely 12,000 or more fellow hikers. Longer, but not any more technical than climbing Mt Trashmore in VA Beach. Think I'll remain in the base camp while the rest of you take on the "Tea House".

Yes you are correct, there was a local Tidewater, VA morning radio show called "Tommy and The Bull". The guys were notorious for their antics including their April Fools jokes. They broadcasted an evacuation warning that the methane gas inside Mt Trashmore had built up and was ready to blow up. A large number of people overwelmed the local 911 systems and began driving to the designated evacuation centers. This was all an April Fools joke, but the FCC didn't see the humor and suspended / fined them. Henry "The Bull" Del Toro died in 2002.
