today i installed a 14" thrush turbo muffler with center/offset inlets, running into a 2 1/4" pipe with a tip. it has a very nice deep tone. the sound is very smooth all the way the rpm range. no raspyness what so ever. the only problem is i can barely hear it!! i left the stock resonator on as well.

if i were to remove the resonator i fear that i would lose that deep tone and end up with a more ricy sound. but i dunno. if i were to replace it with an aftermarket one do yall think that might push the db's up without sacrifcing sound quality?

i will post some pics tonight when i get home.

Looks very nice. :D The resonator will quiet the exhaust down. The raspyness in exhausts comes from straight through designs. The turbo mifflers are considered chambered mufflers, like flowmasters. Chambered mufflers have a much deeper tone to them and do not get very raspy. There is a civic SI around me that has a flowmaster on it and actually has a nice growl to it.
Get rid of the resonator, you coudl always add one back in the future if need be.

yea i thought of that when i was having it installed because the guy asked me if i wanted it off and i was no leave it on. and i know that it wasnt gonna be very loud because turbo mufflers aren't made for sound level thy are more for performance.

so you think because i have the turbo muffler on it shouldn't sound ricey without a resonator because it is chambered?

haha i dunno its some sort of dead creature lol. so your saying because its chambered it shouldn't be ricey... hm may have to make another trip to the muffler shop within the next few days

haha thanks man! yea im thinking about either losing it or putting on a shorter one. because i definitely need to hear it lol. ill try to i dont have a video camera but if i can get one ill try and post one.

so i finally heard it today not being in the drivers seat and you really cant hear it at all... im really bummed out about it too lol

so removed the resonator. it made it much louder maybe too loud... also it lost some of its deep tone....

i dunno how much i like it

well the muffler should be nicely broken-in because i just drove from college station to lubbock and back over the weekend. its not like winey or anything but its definitely not as deep as it used to be with the resonator

well the loudness is acceptable now just wish it was still as deep

i have a flowmaster 40 series on my e with the stock resinator and it sounds great. its got a deeper tone to it...doesnt sound like a ricer civic. i paid $89 for the muffler at pep boys. it was definately worth it... i wouldent replace the resinator for fear that i would lose back pressure.

well replacing a resonator wont loose back pressure. because they are a straight through design. there is no back pressure to loose lol

So after reading up and thinking about removing the resonator off my stock exhaust last night, I jumped the gun and went down to the muffler shop this morning and had them remove it! :) They replaced it with 2.25" pipe, and you get the sporty sound (not exactly like the 350z, G35, FX, but still sounds nice IMHO). I'm glad I did it! :)

It's sound like that POS Duster that lost its muffler on the highway. Don't lose the muffler all together.

definitely try to get a vid and pics up!!

im thinkin i may change mine to an 18" magnaflow and maybe a short resonator. i really am wanting a deeper tone. not that mean is high pitched just not deep enough for my taste.

I have a Thrush muffler on mine too . It's a third of the size and weight of a stock muffler. It's a little deep down low and a bit louder than stock but not by much. Nearly silent when cruising at speed. I love mine!!!! Increased performance and only slightly increased sound. PERFECTION in my opinion. I have the whole exhaust tucked up high so it's not even visable from behind and barely from the side.
