Wow, over 7 pounds for a sleeping pad!!! That is some heft there. Good price and if comfort is all you are looking for and plan on only car camping it is not a bad choice.

aerobed pakmat airbed & pump 78-L x26-W x5-Thick from Cabela's

Cabela's has several options you should look at. Here is one by aerobed that is 5" thick and 25" wide:

They have foam mats (better insulation) that are 3" and 30" wide too.
Michael05,
I purchased this and it is very, very, nice.
Well made and supports my 190lbs frame to the max.
The pump is great. It's quick and easy to inflate.
Fits well upon the seat area and provides more than enough support.
I cannot feel the contours of the seats under me.
It rolls up and slips back into the pump canister.
Yeah, it stores in the pump, which is shaped like a small canister.
Cabela's appears to be the only place that is selling it right now.
When I placed my order it was on back-order.
Thanks for the tip....

The title of this thread is such a great commentary on the Element.

A more typical vehicle thread would be: "What tires are best..." "What turbocharger is best..."

Few can claim to prompt a thread entitled: "What mattress is best....?

Love it. I've camped inside the E several times, using just Thermarest pads. I'm sure others have better recommendations.

:)

We use a futon mattress that is 6" thick that we got at ShopKo on sale for $89. It's a touch too wide to use on the floor (we tried it one night and it "worked" but was just OK) I'm just a bit too tall at just under 5'10" to be comfy even with the front seats all the way up.

Last time we camped we kept the seats in and put the backs down flat to put the futon mattress on top of everything. It fit perfectly and we had much more room for the two of us. We also had storage areas under the seats which we lost when we slept on the floor. (We did lose headroom with the seats in)

The bad part is that the futon mattress is a little ungainly to travel with as it's always the same size unlike an air mattress. That's the trade off we accepted to gain the comfort at night.

we use the Cabela's deluxe camp bed.

It fits perfectly on the bed platform with the front seats. It should also work well with the rear seats in place. Advantages over the futon or tri-fold is that it rolls us when not in use. It'll still take up some space (about 2 cheap sleeping bags worth), but with the built in straps, it is controlled.
That looks really nice. I think we have a winner
Thanks
