No light on heat/cold adjuster on the dashboard

On my dashboard, the adjustment knob for heat and cold doesn't illuminate at night, only thing that does is the A/C button. Is that portion suppose to illuminate? Would it just be a fuse that needs to be replaced?

A temporary fix is tapping the front a couple of times , sometimes this brings brief relief ....................
It's real easy to swap out , even if you're not mechanically inclinded :
Remove the trim starting with the top center , its held on will clips that you will not damage , so go ahead and give it a good pull away from any place it will come apart . You will not be able to completely remove because it is held on by 3 electical plugs , so just pull out enough to get your fingers in there , starting at the bottom hazard plug , then the blower/temp plug and then finally the passenger side airbag plug , this is the hardest , for some reason Honda installed the plug with the release clip on top , but just as the others , once its out , you can move on to removing the bulb that needs replacing , use the smallest flat tip screwdriver you have , twist out and reinstall everything .
#7 is the bulb you need here : http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com...MENT&catcgry2=2008&catcgry3=5DR+LX+(4WD)&catcgry4=KA5MT&catcgry5=HEATER+CONTROL

Good luck

My HVAC bulbs would come back with fast or hard rotations of the dials. Turn the one with bad bulbs all the way in each direction a few times real quick. Make sure to 'hit' each extent with a little force. However, yoy will still eventually need to replace them.

1) remove radio trim plate first (pry holes in under-edge just above HVAC dials)
2) bottom pops out, then wiggle trim plate up each side until it pops out fully
3) reach in on both sides and pull MAIN central dash trim outwards. it helps to have shifter in Neutral (if AT). Wires for HVAC, etc. will restrict trim movement.
4) unplug HVAC plug via small press-in button on plug
5) this should give you enough room to reach behind HVAC and remove 4 screws holding it in
6) radio shack replacement bulbs often hard to find, slightly diff color/brightness, or diff size. If you want the same, just hit a Honda dealer parts counter, they will price match (or try) any internet pricing on replacement bulbs

Your dealership?
Yeah. I had read on a somewhere that the 8640 bulb would work. The 8640 does NOT work! After you fit it into the gray wedge, the wires are too short make contact with the circuit board. Lesson learned.

Stupid question (though I had enough trouble going through the thread, and not finding a definite answer) but is it possible to purchase these bulbs from a local automotive store (I'd prefer not to go to Radioshack or a dealer).

Thanks!

You could check whether your local store carries #7219 and #8640 bulbs, then note the length of the leads.
That's what I was hoping for, unfortunately none of the major part suppliers (at least their online sites) I checked with carry those particular bulbs, or at least if they do, they do not maintain their respective numbers.

Thanks again!

Just FYI, I just got back from my local Honda Dealer and inquired whether or not they had the bulbs in stock. Unfortunately they did not and placed them on order. For all 6 bulbs, I was quoted a price of $53. Does this sound right?

Sounds high. I just looked those bulbs with their base/holders up on Bernardi's site and minus shipping you could purchase them for $34.95 I would think your dealer would sell those bulbs to you closer to that price.

Have you thought about going with l.e.d.s instead of the delicate factory bulbs?

I was interested, but I'm nowhere technical enough, nor do I even have the tools, to solder or perform any other related task to make this a possibility. And yeah, after looking around more it does seem a bit high for what 6 measly bulbs.

Thankfully I have yet to pay :p

Gotcha.

Although they do come installed in their plastic bases, but you're right it does sound high for only 6 bulbs. Maybe they were high when they priced them. :-D

I just ordered some of the 8640 bulbs from Amazon. It's cheaper to buy 3 than to buy less. The shipping cost is lower on a purchase of 3. Total $4.62 for 3 bulbs including shipping.

Thanks again everyone, I'm truly sorry for my noobness :p

I managed to pickup a set of the lower control bulbs from Radioshack but neither them, nor Advanced Auto (right next door) carried the other bulb.

Decided to pickup a pack of 10 from eBay for $7 shipped.

I will say that even though I'm saving some money without purchasing the parts directly from the dealership, I fear ensuring proper grounding is going to be a pain in the ass. I stabbed myself a few times trying to remove the wires from their plastic housings.

I got these bulbs today and installed them. The wires are a little too short to properly connect them. I managed to get them working, but it would have been a lot better if the wires had been 1/4 to 1/2 inch longer.
